Jimmy, Who Rode the Wind

  1. So, do tell, Dr. Artspock, who is Jim Clark? Why the tribute now? (Did he recently pass?)

I watched the whole thing -- fun to see the old footage -- and this video had a beautiful elegiac feel. But it wouldn't have worked at all for a non-gearhead like me if I'd turned the sound off: The music made it work.

  2. In researching my piece for Jonathan (see Graham Hill: The Racer, the Man at anglotopia), I found myself enthralled by Jim Clark's persona. He was the epitomy of the true sportsman, by all accounts a wonderful human being who just happened to be the greatest formula one racer of his era, perhaps any era.

My typo in the Hill article, duly pointed out by an interested observer, had him dying in a race in 2008. It was actually 1968, when we were just wee little bees.

I try to keep a piece interesting with unusual tidbits, so if someone doesn't think the topic is for them, maybe they will read on anyway. Sort of like how music worked in that video.

I think part of the magic of your writing is its lyrical tempo, pitch, tone, that elevates your topic to the highest level.

If I sound all serious here, I'm really not that way. I just love your writing.

    Steve
